Based in Washington D.C., Maria Spencer has over fifteen years of public policy, lobbying and advocacy experience representing organizations including the American Heart Association, the Power Mobility Coalition, the American Society for Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), the National Marrow Donor Program and – prior to joining ConnectSafely, as the director of federal affairs for the Arthritis Foundation. Some of her policy successes include legislation passed in several states including New York and California, and a federal law signed by President Obama in 2010 to assist patients in need of a transplant. She began working in public policy as one of nine graduate/post graduate fellows for the New York State Senate and earned her master’s degree at the State University of New York, University at Albany. Maria enjoys spending time with family and friends and is an avid fan of UNC Basketball and the Pittsburg Steelers. She loves to travel and her volunteer and civic activities.
